LIKE AN OPEN WINDOW FOR A CAT

“Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” – James 4:7-8b

As spring is taking bloom and the temperatures are rising, it is time to do a little spring cleaning.  Part of that yearly ritual is opening the windows to let fresh are in the house.  When I open the windows in our house, one of our cats is immediately drawn to the open window and will not be moved way.  She loves the outdoors, but we cannot let her out much.  She will start to eat grass, which actually upsets her stomach and causes her to throw up.  But when she does get out, she only grudgingly comes back inside the house.

Seeing her attraction to the window reminds me of our attraction to God, or how it should be.  James said that if we draw near to God, then He will draw near to us.  We should live our lives such that whenever an open window of fresh air from God presents itself, we should come running and not be torn away.Drawing near to God has it benefits and advantages.  Drawing near to God in a proper way will invariably lead to submitting ourselves to God.  What a sweet walk this would be!  Enoch walked with God and had such a relationship that God decided to not allow him to die, but to be taken into heaven.  We could only imagine how deep and intimate was Enoch’s kinship with The Lord!  Such should our drawing near to God.

Not only will drawing near to God help us be more submissive, but it will greatly assist us in our every day dealing with sin.  We will never live a sinless day, but every day we should sin less.  Submitting ourselves to God will help us to “resist the devil.”  What an awe-inspring reason to draw near and submit to God!

Drawing near to God should be just like an open window for a cat.  We should be immediately drawn to Him, and not be moved away!
